The paper aims to find an appropriate theoretical and discursive framework for the research of creative rural female entrepreneurs in Hungary based on a review of rural sociology literature. The narrative literature review focuses on the literature relevant to the analysis of female artisans, food producers and service providers in rural Hungary. The paper reviews both Hungarian and international rural sociology literature, especially the studies on rural entrepreneurship, rural women and rural female entrepreneurs. A further aim of the literature review is to develop research questions for the qualitative sociological study of Hungarian rural female entrepreneurs.
