A new approach to corruption: Typology and entrepreneurship
Abstract
Abstract This paper presents new approaches to corruption. First, I outline an innovative corruption typology based on the concept and theory of Max Weber’s three types of legitimate rule. In connection with this, I explain the relevance of Weber’s typology, and I delinate the two elements of a corruption typology: bureaucratic corruption and patriarchal corruption, which can be attached to the main category of personal authority. Afterwards, I summarize the characteristics and functions of the formation and operation of corruption. In the second half of the paper I demonstrate, with the innovative application of the key notions of Schumpeter’s entrepreneurship, that certain cases of corruption can be interpreted as destructive entrepreneurship. Finally, I explore the process nature of these ventures, distinguish the three phases of the process, and describe their main features. Keywords: corruption, typology of corruption, destructive entrepreneurship, process of corruption
